And so our streak of patio dining for the summer of 2023 comes to an end.
I mean we technically could’ve sat outside this time – because the sun was shining and they do have a patio (although it looks at the gravel parking lot and some railroad tracks) but after last weeks icicle meal we opted to stay indoors. Because sometimes even though the sun is shining at the start of the meal this is still early summer in Ohio and there’s no guarantee the thermometer will stay above 60 once the sun slips below the rooflines.
Also the patio here is really just a part of the parking lot that overlooks the rest of gravel lot and some railroad tracks – which, head’s up, if you use Google Maps to find this location then you might find yourself on a dead end street the other side of said tracks given some road construction in front of the building.
We quite literally ended up in the wrong side of the tracks trying to get dinner tonight.
Geez I crack myself up.
I should also point out that some research went into this week’s pick in order to figure out if this LagerHead’s was different from the BBQ place in the middle of nowhere that we loved but Shane seemingly ate some food he was allergic to twice and so we never went back.
Spoiler alert: it is but it’s not. So this location in southern Medina is the brewing facility and their menu is only pizzas along with beer. The other location in northern Medina County is also still open and focusing on smoked meats and full dinners.
So we kind of took a chance that whatever bothered Shane the first two times had more to do with the BBQ sauce served with the meats and less something that would be found on pizza.
I’m writing this well after the fact and he’s still alive and never got sick – so we’ll count this as a win.
This location has kind of an interesting setup . There’s a smallish bar area when you walk in, with seats at the bar and just a few small tables. Then there’s a door to a dining area on the left side where you can dine on picnic or high top tables in the company of the brewing equipment.
And we thought the gravel parking lot patio was idyllic.
Ted got a glass of the Bedhead Red, Shane got a glass of the Something Blue (a blueberry Shandy basically) and I opted to try some different options with a flight of five: the ones the guys got and also the Mexican lager, the Hefeweizen and the German Pilsner.

We got a pretzel as an app.

That’s right, a pretzel. It’s literally one pretzel. But it was shareable and delicious.
For pizzas Shane and I couldn’t decide so we agreed to get two – the El Diablo and the Philly Cheesesteak – and split them.

Wait what, we’re sharing food? This is new.
Ted got the Meatzaa pizza.

Which in addition to looking tasty, is just fun to say.
We ended up swapping him a piece of each of ours for two pieces of his because his looked so good but he admitted he wasn’t as happy with it as the thought line would be.
He thought ours was better than his. Like he put the meatza last out of the three options. Which is unusual with Ted and a meat based pizza unless it’s drowned in cheese (this wasn’t).
But for whatever the reason, mark this down as probably the only occasion in which Shane shared his primary meal with everyone at the table. I cannot stress how rare this is. I feel like there should be a special award given to Lagerheads for this very reason.
I thought the Philly cheesesteak was the best out of the three options.
Shane was a fan of the pretzel more than anything else – which says a lot if you know Shane and his absolute love of this particular food. He still liked the pizza, but the pretzel was overwhelmingly the favorite food option of the evening. He also thought the beer wasn’t as good as some other craft breweries we’ve been to. All that adds up to Shane probably not advocating for a return trip anytime soon. At least it’s not due to illness this time.
Because apparently we’re in opposite world here, Ted liked the Hefeweizen better than most other beers he tried this evening – which is really staying something given he’s usually the guy who asks for and orders the darkest beer in the menu.
I also liked the Hefeweizen best, and enjoyed a few glasses of that after finishing my flight.
The one thing we universally agreed on was that the service was top notch. It’s a small place but it did get pretty busy between groups dining in and people stopping to pick up carry out – and yet we always felt taken care of. There were two people on staff behind the bar, although one was underage and couldn’t pour beers so she just took orders and ran food – so you were supposed to go up to the bar to put in all of your orders. But a few times they came over to check on us and make sure we were OK, which is more than we can say for some full service places we’ve been to over the years.
Overall given the number of pizza places and craft breweries closer to us I don’t know that this will be ok the immediate repeat list. But if we’re in the area and are looking for a pie and a draft, it’s good to know it’s a viable option. Just make sure to stay on the right side of the tracks.
