This week was Shane’s pick, but since it was nice out and he was being indecisive he opted to invoke the group patio vote. After a lengthy debate – because once again we can never remember these things when out on the spot and boy do I wish there was some sort of a website we could consult for this – we remembered this little hidden gem that we came to one time several years back.
Arrived to a very full parking lot in which we had to play the fun game of “create your own parking spot and hope your car remains in one piece.” Always a crowd pleaser. So of course we expected the worst as far as a wait time when we walked in. But it turned out to only be 15-20 minutes – and we could order drinks and sit out front on the picnic tables, which was really all we needed to hear in order to make our wait acceptable.
Plus the view from the tables on the back patio is worth the wait.

Shane and I started with the Tater Kegs for an app – or as Shane tried to call them, the kegerator tots. Well sure, that’s almost the same.

The best way to describe these are kind of like if you took a hash brown and mixed it with a potato skin, formed it in the shape of a little barrel and then fried it up. Also that photo doesn’t do the size of the justice. They truly are like mini barrels of potatoey goodness. And while we couldn’t quite figure out what the sauce was that came with them, we just know it was good.
Ted ordered the swordfish.

Shane called him out after he placed his ordered – assumingly because he didn’t order something of the red meat or fried variety – to which Ted asked if he had ever actually seen swordfish before.
Guessing no. Because as you can see it’s actually more similar looking to a thick steak – but like made out of fish.
I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with onion rings.

Now let me just preface by saying I’ve been let down by these sandwiches in the past, so ordering one kind of made me nervous. I consider nashville chicken to be like the Goldilocks of meats, because in some places the spice level seems to be, well, just regular chicken – while in others they seem to dip it into a sauce that should only be used in the most extreme of wing eating contests.
It turned out to be OK. It had a decent amount of heat to it but not so much that I felt like I needed to flush my mouth out or jump into the creek next to the patio after a few bites. And the pickle slaw used as a condiment on the sandwich was really good.
All that said, the onion rings I chose as my side were a bit much. They were of the heavily breaded variety – which usually I like with onion rings but in this case it just wasn’t very flavorful. And no, not because the hot sauce from the Nashville chicken had deadened my taste buds.
Shane went on his usual fact finding mission about the intricacies of the menu – particularly, which was better between the Rueben and the Cuban. But the joke turned out to be on Shane because our server apparently doesn’t eat meat and therefore he hasn’t tried any of the things that Shane asked about.
He ended up with the beef sliders from the app menu as his dinner.

And also a dozen of the boneless garlic parm wings. Because we have a streak to keep going here, people. And since they didn’t have regular wings on the menu (trust me, he asked) this was the only option.

Now they do have burgers on the menu and honestly I’m kind of surprised no one ordered one. But it was all “build your own” and apparently we were feeling lazy this evening.
Although Shane’s sliders were kind of like four mini burgers so I guess there’s that.
Overall the food here is several steps above bar food and the view on the back patio is worth the price of admission – or the wait for a table, as in our case tonight. They do have indoor seating, which includes a large wall of windows overlooking the back patio area, and I don’t believe there would’ve been any wait for that. But it seemed silly to waste a night like tonight staying indoors. Just clocking that option for an overly humid or rainy night.
I mean, not that we remember to check back here for those kinds of options or anything. It just in case.
