Hey, remember how we like places that serve burgers and wings?

I mean, at least there’s gyros and chili, too?

Ted has been eyeing this place up for a while now, in part because of their social media posts which include a lot of selfies of a girl that he finds attractive. So if you work here and you’re single, please call Ted. Because, spoiler alert, we never found social media girl in our visit.

We also never found what this bright neon sign was advertising.

Ummmm? Clearly not on the menu. Go home, neon sign. You’re drunk.

So when we say we’ve eaten at some dive bars, this one will likely forever be one of the top of the list. It’s a very simple place – as evidenced by the menu. We sat at the bar because there was literally one other person in the place other than us, and it seemed the best option for fastest and most convenient service.

Our bartender said she had been there since 11 and we were like her third customer. Yikes.

I mean, it did get “busy” after we showed up – I use that term lightly, other than to indicate that more people did show up and sit with us at the bar – so I’m not sure what that says exactly but here we are.

Not a lot to choose from as far as draft beer, but Ted got a Truth and I got the leinenkugel’s peach on draft. Shane opted for a tequila and soda with limes.

We had to ask what exactly a “Thacker burger” is, because this is a dive bar after all and we like to know if we’re eating a new type of meat that we should be a bit wary of. Nothing that fancy, instead we got a little history lesson about how Thackers was a restaurant that used to exist and this place ended up inheriting the recipe for burgers. We also learned a little about the bar itself, courtesy of the back of the menu.

Heads up, the burgers are like sliders so that’s why they come in orders of two or four. We thought maybe they just get a lot of people in here to eat who like food as much as we do, but no – it’s because they’re all like White Castle with their sizing and they don’t want you to be disappointed.

Ted and I both ordered the burgers. Four pack for Ted and a pair for me.

I think Shane was all ready to order the same as Ted, but the bartender doubled down with a dare to order the gyros so he could have something different. Because he’s always one to try new things – this is where we really need a sarcasm font BTW – he called her bluff and ordered them.

And not just one. He doubled down and ordered two. To which the bartender tried really, really hard to talk him away from that option, saying that they’re really large and there was no way he would be able to eat both of them.

We all know Shane likes a challenge, right? So this was what arrived in front of him as his meal.

Anyone want to take the bet on if he finished them both?

Before I answer that I’ll just say that Ted and I agreed Shane was smart to go with the gyro. we didn’t think he would’ve been happy with the burgers. Not saying they were bad, but they were smaller patties and therefore a bit more on the well done side – which we all know is not Shane’s favorite thing. It’s also a lot of bun for a small amount of actual meat.

That’s what she said.

Anyway, we probably would’ve eaten more sides of the fresh cut fries – which were amazing – before another burger.

So yeah, if you chose the option that Shane finished not just one but both of those gyros, you would be correct. He said it was difficult, and he kinda regretted it later, but they were just too good to stop eating.

Priorities, people.

I have to give huge props to the bartender. She was truly wearing every hat possible in the place that evening – not only serving drinks, but she was also the cook and had to go back and prepare all of our orders. And never once did we wait for a refill or feel like we were inconveniencing her with all of our questions and food/drink orders. She also only had one arm, in case that matters to anyone. And she was on hour seven of her shift when we arrived but still had the best attitude, cracking jokes with us and giving the guys a fair amount of crap for their ability to put away food.

In a bar atmosphere that clearly has its regulars and could be very adverse to new people, we felt more like old friends than outsiders. I’m not sure if Shane will ever want to return for food after we pretty much had to roll him out from this visit, but I think if we were in the area we would stop in again for an end of the evening drink.
