Well, not to sound like a broken record, but since we’ve gone and signed ourselves up for the Medina County Brew Path and it needs to be finished by July, of course we have to prioritize our Wednesday picks around places with clear paths to those breweries so that we can make stops after we have dinner.

Yes, I realize it’s only April. And we have until July. But someone told us they only take a limited number of entries for three final party over the summer and of course we aren’t doing this whole thing without getting something in return.

Anyway.

Shane was trying really hard to find new places for this week’s pick but kept striking out. He wanted to pick the Vicious Biscuit in Fairlawn, but then discovered they’re only open for breakfast and brunch. As of last night he was confident about a pick in Copley, only to discover I had picked it about a year ago.

And so we ended up in Wadsworth, at a place we were at just last summer – and loved the new updated patio – but it’s been quite a while since we’ve been inside.

Like 2015. Yikes. Back then Wadsworth was “new territory” for our group. How cute.

The guys seemed to remember a steak special from our last visit, but in re-reading that post I couldn’t find anything about that. Well, we didn’t mention the steak challenge, which involved eating something like a 64 oz steak in order to get your name on the wall. They didn’t do it then – but I think it became one of those “maybe we should go back and try this sometime” type stories that lives on in this group for ages.

They didn’t try it this time either, so I guess we’ll just keep on waiting. I mean you have to be wearing the right pants for that kind of thing. And in Shane’s case fill up on beer prior to arrival. Maybe next time.

The Galaxy does have a pretty mighty craft beer list, so at least there’s that. Ignite blonde barista for me, a Scottish ale for Ted and Shane made his seasonal transition to summer shandy instead of bud light, thus signaling the official start of summer in our group.

Not to be outdone by the beer list, the actual menu is just a few pages short of a novel, so leave yourself some time to peruse that when you arrive. In other words, don’t come hungry enough to eat a plate of you don’t know what you want to order already.

Shane chose the garlic parm boneless wings, and – because I think he’s been having food jealousy ever since our trip to Ignite in Brunswick where Ted got hot dogs and he didn’t – also a jumbo dog with chips.

He thought his boneless wings were pretty good. But he had issues with the “jumbo” dog. Mainly because he’s pretty sure they need to reexamine the definition of the word “jumbo” in Wadsworth. This one seemed to be just a regular hot dog with “the works” and not anything having to do with size.

As usual, this spurred talk of one of Shane’s infamous “Top 5/10/8/6 (insert food here) lists” and he claimed he would place the hot dogs at Sheetz higher than these. So there’s that. Although those have consistently been his #1 in probably all the years we’ve been together, so take that as you will.

Of course this then divulged into a conversation of the guys ranking hot dogs. And I feel bad for anyone who passed our table out of context and heard things like “is the sauce meaty or beany “ or “are there chunks?”

Yes, we talk about important things on Wednesdays.

On the opposite side of the health spectrum this evening, Ted ordered the blackened salmon with rice and broccoli.

He thought his salmon was decent, but nothing to write home about. The seasoning wasn’t super heavy for a blackened fish and the broccoli had no seasoning at all. So apparently the kitchen staff was looking out for people’s salt intake this evening.

Because that’s always top of our list of priorities on Wednesdays. I mean, see Shane’s meal for reference.

And mine, I suppose. I got the fish and chips. But at least I added a side salad, so that counts for something maybe?

I liked it. The breading wasn’t super heavy and the fish was flaky and tender. The fries weren’t anything special, but that was fine because I really hadn’t wanted to eat all of them anyway. I did feel an $5 upcharge for the salad was a little crazy given it was little more than lettuce with a sprinkling of cheese.

It seems between the lack of seasoning and lack of flair on the salad the kitchen staff was on some sort of “try to use the least amount of items possible” challenge.

It’s also worth mentioning that when we got the bill we found out that Shane’s 20oz summer shandy was $8. That seems a little steep. Maybe it’s not considered in season yet.

In a dejavu moment from last week, we once again ended up back at Blue Heron and Acronym Breweries after dinner so we could complete those two places on our Medina Brew tour. We had a really great bartender at Blue Heron who was very engaging and jumped into our convo as we were trying to figure out who sang an obscure song from the 90s – which seems like an odd discussion but trust me when so say this is like a weekly occurrence with our group – and so any assistance is welcome. Both places were also much busier than last time we were there, which was nice to see. Although now that we’ve checked those off the list it might be a while before we head back again.
