Hello Kent! We don’t get over here often, because it seems there aren’t a ton of new places opening around town that aren’t catered toward college students. And folks, we are well past that stage of life. As we are made well aware every time we start to get antsy about being “out late” at the ripe hour of 10pm.

The struggle is real.

Ted said he had actually been here before for drinks only, because at that time they didn’t serve food. But now they do, and it’s my pick, so here we are. Yay!

The parking situation is a bit chaotic. One small parking lot plus a one way street equals lots of circling trying to find a place to park. In the rain. Good times. We did the full block circle three times before finally finding a street spot a short walk away. In the rain. Did I mention good times?

But hey, at least it’s really cool inside! Bonus. The space is an old church that’s been converted to a brewery – so think tall ceilings, interesting layout and little architectural touches that make it super unique. When so many of the craft breweries these days seem to be in old warehouse spaces and converted office parks, this made for a nice change up.

Bell Tower brews their own beer, but they also have a full bar and even meads from our favorite place Crafted Meadery. Way to share the love, Bell Tower.

Shane chose the Dragonheart from Crafted, while I went with the Warhammer.

Ted opted for the flight of beers, which allowed him to pick five options of craft beer. He chose the assistant brewer’s pick which was a pre-curated selection that included chocolate stout, Doppelbock, German Pilsner, schwarzbier and hot pepper cream ale.

I tried the hot pepper cream ale which I had been eyeing up on the menu if I was going to go the beer route, and found it to be tasty. I also sampled the chocolate stout, which was very good.

For dinner, Ted got the chicken paperkash from the specials menu, but only after a ten question inquisition about the how the chicken was prepared in it.

Knowledge is power.

He said it wasn’t bad. It had good flavor but not spicy. And that there also was not a lot of chicken in it, so truly his questions were more prying than they needed to be on that front.

Because he’s still in healthy mode, Shane got a salad. Pro tip, if you ask the server how big the salads are and she uses her hands as a measurement, it’s probably not going to be very accurate. This was one hundred percent the case in this instance, but at least it worked out to Shane’s favor and he ended up with a much larger salad than he was anticipating.

When asked how his salad was, Shane’s comment was that if you can eff up a salad then something is very wrong. So I guess it must’ve been OK then.

I got the hot Italian sandwich and a half Greek salad.

All of my meal was good. The bread on the sandwich was delicious, you could tell it was freshly baked but still doughy. I probably shouldn’t have eaten both halves – especially with the salad too – but it was just that good that I couldn’t resist.

Overall this is a cool little neighborhood place with good service, selection and menu options. We could’ve done without the band, as in this space the acoustics made it very difficult to hear each other during the meal even when we weren’t sitting super close to the stage (We’ve already established that we’re old, get over it). But the space itself was cool, and we didn’t notice a little patio space that we may want to earmark for a return visit this summer. When it’s not raining.
