Ah, Dilly D’s. The site of the infamous big Wednesday trivia night win by the team with the most unfortunate name – which was definitely picked by a male member of our group – back in 2018.

RIP Moist Towelettes.

But wait, Ted still has the gift card from that night win in his wallet!

Wow. That card has seen things. I mean, it survived a whole global pandemic just squirreled away in Ted’s wallet.

You know what’s not squirreled away? Shane’s anger about the meal he had last week at Laconis. Because it’s fun to hold food grudges. And also – if you’re Shane anyway – rank the top places that you won’t ever order a burger from again if you have the unfortunate privilege to be back in them again.

Last week made the top three, if you’re interested. Right up there with the burger that he still swears tried to kill him from The Rail, and the one with chiclet onions at that little hole in the wall out by Ravenna.

Ah, what a trip down memory lane.

So what does he order tonight? A burger. Way to tempt fate.

But at least he interrogated the server first to make sure this was the right choice. Or, more appropriately, make sure he would have someone to blame if it wasn’t the right choice. He was teetering between the pizza and the burger – hey wait, this sounds familiar, no? – and the server said the burgers were “phenomenal.”

So here we are.

It was a smash burger, and she said they come out more un-done than over-done. So far you’re speaking Shane’s language.

He got the two fold smashburger.

He also upcharged for the garlic parm fries as his side. Because if the burger is terrible then at least there are still better than normal fries, right?

But no worry. This week the burger passed the test. Yay! His only complaints were that it was super messy and that made it difficult to eat.

Because in Shane’s world everything falls on a ranking system, it still wasn’t as high as his benchmark, On Tap. But compared to last week this was a giant win.

As a compromise for Shane not getting a full pizza as his order, we also got the pizza wonton wraps as an app. They were really good.

It was a difficult choice for me tonight only because there were several things on the menu that looked good. Chicken sandwiches of different varieties and wings all had my attention.

I ended up with the hot honey chicken quesadilla and a side salad.

My quesadilla was good. Unlike others at my table I didn’t have a difficult time eating it without wearing it, and it wasn’t oversized so I wasn’t stuffed after finishing it. The hotness of the honey chicken was enough to remind you it’s supposed to be there but not enough to completely knock you on your ass.

As if to mock me, Ted got all of those items I had been eyeing up on the menu; the hot honey chicken sandwich paired with six of the spicy garlic wings. Choices be damned, I guess.

Ted thought the chicken sandwich had really good flavor, but the chicken was too crispy and almost over done. As a shock to no one because it was apparently the theme of the evening for everyone but me, it was super messy too.

But the wings were really good. Ted’s word was “perfect.” Not sure how you top that.

So … remember that gift card we had from 2018? Anyone think we tried to use it on this visit? And anyone think they actually took it as money off of our meals?

Well you would be right on both accounts. Bonus points if you guessed that warranted us a special visit from the owner of the place, who came over to tell us they were going to frame it on the wall in the office since – fun fact we probably knew at the time but didn’t still remember now seven years later – 2018 was the year the place was established. So it was like opening a Time Machine seeing that card come back in the door this evening.

You’re welcome.
