It’s been three weeks, so welcome back to this week’s edition of Where To Go To Eat Mexican Food, courtesy of Ted.

This week we’re at Feserales in Kent, which is a fast casual Mexican street taco place. Think Chipotle but with better alcohol.

That’s right, there’s no table service here. You walk in and are immediately greeted with the food stations where you choose your meal/toppings, and then you take your food with you to your table.

Which is a shame really because the bar around the corner from the food line may be more impressive than the food selection quite honestly. It seemed like a cool place to hang out, and totally different vibe from a place where you walk through a line and tell someone what condiments you want on your dinner.

They do have a handful of pre-curated menu items you can choose from, or you can make your own creation of bowl, burrito, salad, street tacos. etc. Again, very similar to a Chipotle in options.

Ted and Shane both chose the spicy burritos from the menu listing. Ted had his without cheese sauce of course.

And here it is with cheese, for those normal people out there who realize Mexican dining in this country means please douse my food in allllll the cheesy sauce possible.

They both liked their burritos. Their comments were that the flavor was good and it was spicy without making you feel like you were about to break a sweat.

I decided to put together my own option, a bowl with steak.

My bowl was just ok. It was a lot of food – like that picture is actually quite deceiving because it was truly like eating from a bottomless bowl that kept regenerating food as I was trying to eat it. But the flavor wasn’t my favorite. It just didn’t seem to combine right.

Of course we also had to get the chips and salsa – but again, without table service you’re ordering it at the front end and paying for each basket. No unlimited, just-keep-the-baskets-and-salsa-pots-coming-because-we’re-starving-over-here-now-but-won’t-want-to-eat-our-meals-by-the-time-they-arrive-because-we’ll-be-too-full-on-the-damn-chips option here.

The guys at the counter also assumed at first that Shane and I would be sharing a basket of chips and salsa. Silly men. Clearly they haven’t met us or read this blog before.

For drinks, Shane and I both had the watermelon cucumber margaritas. Because they just sounds refreshing, no?

Thankfully it was. This drink right here was probably my favorite part of the whole experience if I’m being honest.

Ted got the regular lime margarita – which is on special on Wednesdays for $4.99, score – and really liked his too.

So overall definitely not the worst place we’ve ever been. But on the 1 to Latinos Mexican restaurant rating scale we’ve devised over these past few months, I think we would all agree it’s nowhere near the top or even really the middle of the list. The atmosphere is very college town, let’s go out and grab a quick bite someplace doesn’t feel like fast food – but the pricing is kind of steep for that aesthetic. And I have to admit that the Chipotle style ordering here really kind of threw us off as soon as we walked in. It’s rare you see that at a place that also has a bar – and a cool one at that – but that definitely took the rating down several notches when we realized it was going to be a bit of a DIY dinner this evening since that’s not our usual style.

That being said, if you live in the Kent area and want take out or Uber Eats this seems like a decent option. The counter seemed to be pretty busy with those orders, but aside from two other tables we were the only ones dining in on this evening.

Needless to say it became an early night for us at this location, so we made a quick stop at our old friend the Bailey Road Tavern for a nightcap on our way home. You know it’s a fun place when the signage is starting to slur its words.
