When we need to look back on a night when Shane just couldn’t win, we should reference this one.
We ended up here at Butcher & Sprout because 1) Ted had a work event at HiHo Brewery just down the street and thought it would be an easy walk over for him, 2) after a few beers at HiHo he kind of lost the ability to look up a new place and 3) we realized we hadn’t been here since early 2020.
OK universe, we get it.
Or so we thought. Apparently the universe was just pointing us there to mess with Shane, because it seemed nothing he ordered would actually be what he wanted.
It all started when he tried to order a Down East cider and was told they didn’t that anymore. Oh and actually they no ciders whatsoever, so just give up on that idea.
So then he tried to order the seasonal Great Lakes thinking it would be Christmas Ale. Guess what! It wasn’t.
Which is how he ended up with a pumpkin beer, admittedly not one of his favorite flavors of beers. Needless to say, it was just alright.

On the “we haven’t pissed off the universe recently and it’s out for revenge” side of the table, Ted ordered and received a Guinness, and I did the same with a spicy margarita.

Keeping on the spicy theme, I got the spicy steak sandwich with truffle tots.

Ted got the salmon sandwich.

Shane got the You’re My Boy Blue boy burger, which he ordered his usual medium rare. The server commented back to him that was the only way to order it, which gave Shane such hope and excitement that things were finally turning around for him on this evening.

Anyone want to take a guess how that turned out for him? I mean, I kinda set this one up for y’all, so it shouldn’t be that difficult.
Let’s just say that his supposed medium rare burger looked like this:

File that under, we hate to see what “well done” looks like here.
Needless to say he was pretty disappointed. Case in point, when I asked what he thought Shane said these words: dry. Too well done. Not good.
Do we all see now why I write these reviews?
The one bright spot for Shane seemed to be the mozzarella sticks, which he had ordered as an additional side to his French fries.
Because “I’ll take an additional side of fried cheese with my burger and French fries” is really only commonplace in our group, I know.
Of course I made fun of him because we had been looking at apps for the two of us to share and I said the only thing I didn’t want was the mozzarella sticks because we’d been ordering them a lot at other meals recently. And then instead of an app he orders them as a side. So you can tell who has been the driving force behind those app decisions clearly.
Also, that kind of sums up marriage in a nutshell.
Not to rub it in to Shane at all or anything, but his experience with the mozzarella sticks was pretty much how everyone else at the table felt about, well, the majority of the evening.
Ted said his salmon sandwich was awesome and would definitely be included on a “best of” list if he was one to create those kinds of things. He did note that the sweet potato fries were advertised on the menu as spicy but they didn’t taste that way to him – although they were still very good, so he really wasn’t complaining.
Similar story with my sandwich, which was really good – and did include spice. The steak was seasoned well and made the sandwich very tasty. The tots were perfect, and as Ted said, something that might go on a “best of” list of I were one to do that.
Sorry, Shane. Maybe he should read this review before our next visit so he’s better prepared. Because if I have to choose, I think I would definitely return.
