So far the theme of 2026 seems to be brand new picks or going back to places we haven’t been in more than a decade. So this week we’re back once again to one of our very early picks from the start of Where To Go Wednesdays. And also as Ted pointed out, the place where the group joke began because this is where Shane “first introduced us all to sushi.”
(Really it was when Shane first realized he enjoyed sushi and then of course acted like he invented it – but we all have different versions of stories don’t we?)
Wasabi has two sides – a dining area and a hibachi area with the food being prepared in front of you. And you have to choose your own adventure as soon as you walk in, so have your decision ready.
We chose to sit on the restaurant side since there was a wait for the hibachi side. And we all know this group doesn’t like to wait for food on Wednesday nights.
Truthfully we might’ve sat at the exact table we sat at all those years ago. Keeping the experience real, folks.
Shane proclaimed he was going to order four rolls, because you know he was just so hungry – so some things clearly haven’t changed over the years. Ted and I thought was rather ambitious and talked him down to ordering only two. Especially with calamari as an app.
Fair warning, this is one of those times when food just keeps showing up at our table. It’s like a story in several parts.
First salads

Then the calamari and Ted’s edemame.

Then some soup.

Then our actual meals, which also arrived in stages.
First Ted’s Treasure Island roll from the specials menu. Which is less sushi and more like a cake. He said it has eel and crab and some sort of green vegetable that we discussed was either broccoli or avacado.

And then Ted’s chicken teriyaki.

Keeping up ok?
And then Shane’s rolls – two spicy salmon and one Philadelphia

And finallly my steak hibachi with white rice and noodles instead of the shrimp that would kill Shane.

Ok I think that’s everything. Which is good because we were definitely out of table space.
Shane had food envy for my meal. He kept saying he should’ve ordered the hibachi. Not that his sushi was bad – it was actually delicious and he enjoyed it very much – but just that mine looked so good.
But he was glad we talked him out of that fourth roll. Full Shane is happier than stuffed Shane.
Ted said everything about his meal was as expected and he liked everything that was delivered. He said he didn’t need the edemamae. The treasure island was his favorite thing – no rice but lots of kinds is fish and vegetables all kind of mixed together. he would order again.
My hibachi was very tasty. I would most definitely order again. And while I love sitting at the hibachi tables for the entertainment factor, being able to order it in the dining room was just as delicious and far more time effective.
Still a solid pick and someplace we probably shouldn’t wait another 13 years to return to. The place can be fancy or casual which makes it a great option for special occasions or just a random night out.
