Another Wednesday, another search for a patio. Thank you, Mother Nature. So far this summer is off to a good start.
And if summer vibe is what we were searching for then Eadies Fish House was definitely the right choice. This place’s beach theme and decor is like a little slice of Key West dropped in Canton, Ohio, like the wicked witch’s house in The Wizard of Oz.
The word “house” is used intentionally here, as this building likely lived another life as someone’s home. There’s a large wraparound covered porch that serves as the patio, and while we didn’t spend a lot of time in the interior portion of the restaurant what we did witness had the feeling of choppy rooms that were once living and dining areas.
Shane’s favorite types of picks.

Pro tip: you have to go inside to check in with the staff before just seating yourself at any of the tables on the porch/patio. But then they will likely just tell you to seat yourself at any open and cleaned table there afterwards. OK. At least we’ve been acknowledged.
If you can’t guess from the name, seafood is the main star of the menu. Shocking, I know. But they also have other things like burgers, chicken sandwiches, wings, salads, etc.
We ordered drinks and somehow Shane won the clean glass lottery and ended up with the only grownup glass at the table.

I’m not gonna say that’s the worst decision this place could make, but also he is our driver this evening so giving him the largest alcohol portion seems logical, sure.
For reference here, the red drink is my seasonal downeast cider, Shane’s real glass is a bud light and Ted’s is the a truth IPA. And yes they were full when they brought them to us. We’re just thirsty tonight.
Now food.
Ted seemed pretty content with his meal choice, but also commented before we ordered that he had a feeling he should have a backup plan just in case.
And he must be psychic because sure enough when he tried to order a combo platter with perch he was told – surprise – they’re out of Lake Erie walleye and perch.
Too bad they don’t sell lottery tickets at this establishment or else I might be writing this from an actual island somewhere. Oh well.
Instead Ted opted for a combo of breaded mushrooms and shrimp, along with five of the “killer garlic” wings.

Shane and I both got the same order: the two-piece beer battered cod dinner. I got mine with onion rings while Shane got his with fries.

Let’s all pause for a moment and say a little prayer for our arteries, which I can feel hardening just looking at this photos.
Thank you.
But wait, there’s more! Because breading isn’t unhealthy enough, let’s add some deep fried cheese to the table, in the form of mine and Shane’s dill pickle cheese curds.

Shane also got a side of the Italian marinated peppers because he was intrigued by the menu item. See also: the closest thing to an actual vegetable on our table this evening.

AND last but not least, a coney dog. Because some part of the wiring in his brain will not let him pass up a coney dog if he sees it on a menu.

Oh wait, there’s onions there. Do they count as vegetables? If so Shane may be the healthiest of all of us this evening.
I’ll start by saying I was not a fan of the onion rings, and actually ended up swapping with Shane so he could have those and I took his fries instead (which I did end up liking a lot better). The onion rings are hand battered and were too crunchy and well done for my liking, but he was ok with them. I took one piece of my fish home because I was full by the end of the meal.
The cheese curds were probably my favorite part of the meal. Our server was very excited when we ordered them, and said they are a big seller – and we could see why. They do have a dill flavor to them which makes them unique.
We’re all beginning to think Ted has zero taste buds left because his take on the “killer garlic” wings was that they didn’t have enough flavor. But I will say that Shane has ordered garlic fries from Wing Warehouse that gave off more of a garlic odor from afar than Ted’s wings, so maybe he was on to something.
Shane was also disappointed in the flavor of his peppers. They sounded great on the menu, but in reality ended up just being cooked peppers. He added them to his coney dog instead of eating them alone, which neither hurt nor incredibly helped either dish.
But we will give appreciation where it’s due: a place that brings you giant squeeze bottle containers of tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and mayo to the table along with your food definitely lives up to both the “fish house” and “dive bar” part of their name. They mean business when it comes to condiments. And also don’t want to be asked to bring more apparently.
They also mean business when it comes to going home on time, though, too – which means they take that 8pm weeknight closing time seriously. That’s right, 8pm. Very un-dive bar like, no?
We were about to be irritated when our server just brought our checks over at about 7:55 without asking us if we were ready to cash out – one of our biggest pet peeves – but then she added “I’ll just be inside helping to close up” which caused us all to whip our phones out and look up the closing time. Oh.
Needless to say we were a little surprised. Maybe if we decide to return we should focus on an afternoon day drinking excursion instead of a dinner destination.
